@ComputerAmerica Show Lineup for the week of April 14, 2014

Lineup for the week:

Monday
----------
Hour one: First Interaction. While technology has been used to bring people together, it can also bring the perils of unknown danger. Social media is a great place to connect and expand one's social life, but the vulnerability to a lack of safety is a legitimate threat when it comes to meeting people online. Hiding behind a computer screen, it is very easy to pretend to be anyone. That is why Hawaii-based entrepreneur, Cynthia Tercier, created the very first social media/meetup website with mandatory background checks for all of its members. Cynthia is an expert in online safety, and how to socializing and find activity partners, friends, or romantic interests online. Knowing how important it is be able to be assured those using and interacting with you on the same social platforms are legitimate, Cynthia created a social meet up website where members can find and connect with those interested in the same activities or hobbies, or for people just looking to meet new people to socialize with. April Fools revisited

1957 - The BBC broadcast a documentary that showed how Italians harvested spaghetti from trees. Many viewers believed the hoax and attempted to purchase spaghetti seeds from their local seed stores.

1996 - Taco Bell took out a full-page ad in the New York Times announcing that the taco chain had actually purchased the Liberty Bell. Claiming that they bought it to reduce the national debt, they re-named it the Taco Liberty Bell. It was, of course, an April Fool's prank.

1998 - Burger King advertised a left-handed hamburger. According to their ad, the burger was designed specifically for left-handed people as it would only drip its juices from the right-hand side. Another April Fools prank.

2008 - Today is when the BBC reported the story of a rare flock of flying penguins in Antarctica that migrated from the South Pole to the Amazon Rain Forest. In case you were wondering, penguins don’t fly.

All from Ward's Daily Almanac:  http://wbward.com/almanac%20main.htm

Ouch, that's quite a prank....

1993 – As an April Fools’ prank, DJ Dave Rickards told listeners of KGB-FM in San Diego that Space Shuttle Discovery had been diverted from Edwards Air Force Base and would be landing at Montgomery Field, a small municipal airport with a 4,577 foot runway. Thousands of people went to the airport to watch the purported landing, causing traffic jams throughout Kearny Mesa. Moreover, there wasn't even a shuttle in orbit at the time.
