or small, large or petty--never give in except to convictions of honor
and good sense. - Winston Churchill

Today’s Poor Prediction
"I
find it difficult to believe that the seat belt can afford the driver
any great amount of protection over and above that which is available to
him through the medium of the safety-type steering wheel if he has his
hands on the wheel and grips the rim sufficiently tight to take
advantage of its energy absorption properties and also takes advantage
of the shock-absorbing action which can be achieved by correct
positioning of the feet and legs."

Keep
away from the people that belittle your ambitions. Small people always
do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become

Just a few useful links:
For checking the weather, you might want to look at the local weather radars:
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=vbx&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no
Or for the whole country, you can bring up this:
http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/
From there, you can click anywhere on the map to bring up the local radar view.
Traffic has been getting busier lately, so here's the California Highway Patrol site with incidents they respond to:
http://cad.chp.ca.gov/
Just click the drop down menu under Communications Centers and pick the area you want. They also post information on road closures and Amber Alerts. Some of my favorite incidents are "Cows Loose on Road." Or as I like to call them, "pre-tri-tip."
CalTrans also posts traffic information. Live video cameras from the south to the north along major routes.

Or for other information about roads:

You can also listen to many of the local radio stations via the Internet:
KVEC
KSMX
KINF
KCBX
And from Los Angeles or San Fransisco:

This Date, 1968
1968 - While returning to base from another mission, Air Force 1st Lt. James P. Fleming and four other Bell UH-1F helicopter pilots got an urgent message from an Army Special Forces team pinned down by enemy fire. Although several of the other helicopters had to leave the area because of low fuel, Lieutenant Fleming and another pilot pressed on with the rescue effort. The first attempt failed because of intense ground fire, but refusing to abandon the Army green berets, Fleming managed to land and pick up the team. When he safely arrived at his base near Duc Co, in the Central Highlands region of Vietnam, it was discovered that his aircraft was nearly out of fuel. Lieutenant Fleming was later awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions.

Reminder About Computer Phone Scams
Computer Scammers Taking a New Route
A
south county woman recently received a call from someone claiming to be
from Microsoft who says he needed to conduct a scan of her computer to
look for viruses. To do that, the caller says he needed remote access to
log in to her computer. Once these scammers have access to the computer
they can install malicious software, steal personal information, or
direct consumers to fraudulent websites where they are asked to enter
their credit card information.
In this case, no information was given and no loss occurred. The Sheriff's Office cautions the public to avoid these types of calls. Microsoft will not call you to conduct this type of service. To protect yourself, the Better Business Bureau recommends contacting your service provider directly, install virus detection software, don't trust cold calls, and find a computer repair company you can trust.
